A small preview of how the films were made…
The Smoke & Mirrors Film Competition gave 3 winners the chance to work with a professional director and production crew to see their film produced as a 90-second viral film for YouTube, aired at its very own premiere on 14th December 2009 which was attended by the region’s key policy makers, employers and celebrities, with one film going on to be screened in the region’s cinemas across the Christmas period.
The brief was to create a short film idea that focused on getting across important messages on the marketing of cigarettes, despite advertising restrictions, and unveiling existing negative practice within the Tobacco Industry such as deforestation and child labour .

All the shortlisted entrants did a fantastic job working on and presenting their ideas at the Campaign Weekend – but in the end it was the attendees at the weekend who decided who the winners should be…

THE SMOKE & MIRRORS FILM COMPETITION
WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
Did you see through the illusion?
The deadline for submissions is now closed.
We are thrilled with the number of submissions our short film competition received as it proves that young people from the North West are really thinking about the more serious issues behind smoking, such as the deforestation, and encourage the tobacco industry to take further steps to protect young people.
